This month we are super excited to feature our sponsored artist Hiro Ok and ask him a few questions about what got him into tattooing.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Hiro, 27, self taught artist, born and raised in a little town in south East Asia Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
How long have you been tattooing for and what studio you are based out of?
I have been tattooing for roughly 5 years and Currently working at All day tattoo in Grey Lynn, Auckland.

What got you into it?
I always wanted to become an artist since I was a kid, but never thought about tattooing. I moved to New Zealand with my family when I was 18, working full time at a supermarket, trying to find a path into art industry. At the age of 21, I looked back at my first tattoo and started to think ‘what if I could tattoo?’ That is when I started to give myself homework, doing research, practice drawing and tattooing almost every night after work and I was lucky enough to get a position at Ink rush tattoo as a junior artist in 2017.
What’s your tattoo style?
I’m currently tattooing mainly black and grey realism focusing on textures, contrast and composition.
I also would love to get into colour realism and surrealism which I have been slowly introducing my clients to.
Who are you in your private life?
Beside tattooing, I love food, I also enjoy adventures and fitness. I could almost say I just love anything that keep me active/motivated.
We appreciate the time Hiro Ok gave us for this interview! Make sure when you’re locking in your next lot of ink to be checking out All Day Tattoo in Auckland.
